Mark Philben, project development manager for Cambridge-based Charlie Allen Renovations (www.charlie-allen.com), has been selected as The Boston Globe’s new ‘Ask the Remodeler’ columnist. Philben’s advice to homeowners about home maintenance and renovation issues will appear in the Globe’s Address section every two weeks.
“We are excited to have Mark on-board,” says Eileen Woods, editor of The Boston Globe’s Address section. “His expertise will bring much welcome insight — and relief — to readers struggling with home repair.”
A member of the Charlie Allen Renovations team since 1998, Philben has been a construction and renovation professional for nearly four decades. He began his career as a builder of new homes in the 1980s, but later found his true passion in residential remodeling. Currently, as Charlie Allen Renovations’ project development manager, he works with homeowners to achieve their renovation goals. He has received national Green Remodeler certification from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry (where he is also certified as a Lead Carpenter and as a Remodeler), and has completed CAPS (Certified Aging in Place) training with the National Association of Home Builders. Philben has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
“Mark is both incredibly knowledgeable about home maintenance and renovation, and exceptionally generous in sharing that knowledge,” says Julie Palmer, president of Charlie Allen Renovations. “He’s the perfect choice for the ‘Ask the Remodeler’ column.”
“Working with clients to achieve their renovation goals is the most satisfying aspect of my work,” Philben says. “I’m very grateful to The Boston Globe for giving me the opportunity to help its readers, too.”
