A Day On The Course For A Good Cause

By Julie Dalton, Platt Builders

On a beautiful last day of summer, PRO New England hosted 120 golfers at their 25th Annual Golf Outing at Shaker Hills in Harvard, MA. Golfers were greeted by smiling PRO faces, giveaways, and breakfast before setting out for a shotgun start and best ball format – proof that this outing is for everyone!

Outings like this are not about a day out of the office and is instead focused on raising funds for a very worthy cause: the Trades Up Scholarship Fund. TradesUp awards two scholarships annually: the PRO New England Member Scholarship and the James Marcotte Career Kickstarter for students planning to pursue a career in the trades. This year, sponsorships and participation in a couple of on-course contests raised just over $4500 for TradesUp. Special thanks to perennial sponsor Dovercraft Construction for the putting contest and to the air cannon sponsors: Ace Disposal and Custom Contracting. Lots of laughs, curves, spins, and Since neither of those contests are indicative of a golf handicap, it’s more proof that this outing is for everyone!

While I did not defend my Longest Drive for women, I’d like to congratulate Alaina Plourde of Core Remodeling for winning it this year. I promise I’ll challenge to get the title back next year! Other winners included Sean Farnsworth of Custom Contracting for his Closest to the Line shot up the middle of the fairway, Chris Reed of JB Sash and Door for his Longest Drive (Men), and Phil Baldwin from CPS Cooling & Heating for his Closest to the Pin shot.

For the actual golfers out on the course, the winning groups were the Needham Bank foursome, the Resource Options foursome, and the FD Sterritt foursome. They each went home with gift certificates to Shaker Hills pro shop – that’s one way to make sure good golfers come back out next year!

Various vendors set up along the course which makes this event so worthwhile: we get a chance to interact with colleagues who value how PRO connects us all. Again, this isn’t just a day out of the office and instead is a great networking day! Thanks to everyone who participated in making this an incredibly successful event. Don’t miss out next year and remember: you don’t have to be a good golfer in a best ball format!
