I was recently drilling down on the annual Cost Versus Value Report for 2020 published by Hanley Wood. Like our members, I’m always curious to see the types of projects that recoup the most value for a homeowner. There are the outlier projects that recoup nearly all the investment like garage doors, entry doors, and manufactured stone veneer. Those elements can be sold based on the value one can recoup, but in most cases, they will not make a meaningful change in the lives of the people who own the home.
As you drill down the projects that make a true impact on the lives of the people who use a space usually return a 50-65% value on the investment. You improve the lives of a homeowner by creating modifying a bathroom to be accessible, adding the functional outdoor space of a deck, or adding space to a master suite. While the ROI on those projects may be a part of a conversation with a prospective client, the true value comes in the design – and the way the project can impact how they live and grow.
It occurs to me that this is not unlike NARI membership. From time to time we have companies looking to get that dollar for dollar value out of their NARI membership. In doing this, they lose sight of the real value of NARI – our ability to impact the way remodeling businesses live and grow. As we start 2020, I’m excited about all the ways we create value for our members.
Our Remodelers Conference earlier this month offered a great way for both business owners and field staff to get the CEUs they need for their CSL renewal. Thanks to all who came – we will be starting the planning for 2021 soon.
The EM NARI Foundation Scholarship Program is open with applications due in early April. Be sure that your staff knows about this opportunity – it’s open to all employees of EM NARI members!
The CotY Awards are May 6th. Whether you entered a project, sponsored the awards, or just want to check out the incredible projects on the Wall of Fame we hope you and your team will be there.
Our Inspectors Panel is back the first Wednesday in September. This will be just before Labor Day so mark your calendar.
Our Youth Remodeling Career Day is October 15th – a Thursday this year. Come and help us inspire the next generation of remodeling industry professionals!
This is only a fraction of the programs we have planned for 2020. Our hope is that your involvement in NARI will bring you rich rewards on your investment measured in meaningful connections with your peers, learning opportunities for your staff, and the opportunity to give back to our industry.
